Description

Rectangular heraldic ledger, now outside, commemorating former Sheriff of Hull Arthur Saltmarsh(e) (1629-78), of the Howden Saltmarshe family, brother of Ann Saltmarshe, wife of Anthony Lambert (qqv, now both in South Porch).

Blue stone with fossil inclusions. Inscription at top in upper case Roman script. In centre, heraldic roundel 660mm diameter showing Saltmarshe arms in relief: Argent, semée of crosses crosslet, 3 cinquefoils gules pierced of the first (White/silver, scattered with small red cross-barred crosses, and three five-petalled red flowers with a white/silver centre). The helmet crest is a ship's rudder, or (gold).
