Michael of Canterbury was a mediaeval gothic architect/ mason employed by Edward I to work on the chapel of St Stephen in Westminster Palace around 1292. Michael designed the original Eleanor Cross at Cheapside in London and worked at Canterbury Cathedral.  

In Hull Minster his work is described: “the tracery in the earliest work still surviving, the transepts of c 1300-20, is in the style of Michael of Canterbury”. Given Edward Is interest in Hull it may well be that he instructed Michael to carry out this project. He had a wide influence on French Flamboyant gothic and English Perpendicular.
