Summary

Under the steps into the raised choir is Lieutenant-Colonel Robert Simson, K.H. (Knight of Hanover), who died on 12 April 1844 after 21 years as Major of Hull Garrison.

From an Ayrshire/Glasgow family, a cousin of General Sir John Moore, he served with Moore in the Peninsular War. In the War of 1812 against the US, he survived losing a leg at New Orleans. He then served with the Invalids in Hull. His funeral was a major event in Hull.

His obituary was published in the Gentleman's Magazine:
