Summary

This brass wall plaque commemorates two WW1 casualties. Lieutenant-Colonel George Herbert Shaw, a corn merchant in civilian life, was killed aged 50 at the 2nd Battle of Ypres, 24 April 1915 – shot through the head by a sniper.

His fourth son, Francis Leslie Shaw, a private in the 48th Canadian Highlanders, was killed on the Somme on 26th September 1916, aged 21. He is commemorated on the Vimy Ridge memorial, near Arras.
