Summary

A wall monument with a sarcophagus commemorates Henry Maister (1730-1812), Chairman of Hull Dock Company and Colonel of the East Yorkshire Militia.

The Militia Acts from 1757 raised county militia regiments because of fear of invasion during the Seven Years’ War. They were raised again in 1778 and 1792 (with Henry as Colonel) during the American and French Revolutionary Wars.

The memorial also commemorates his wife Margaret Pennyman Warton (1736-1802), buried at Weston, Bath.
