Iron cannonball

Common name(s): The Holy Trinity cannonball
Catalogue ID: 743

Description

This solid iron cannonball was found during a dig next to Hull Minster's South Porch. It was crusty and brown before conservation and the iron oxide looked like clumps of mud. X-rays were taken to find out whether the cannonball was still solid underneath. It is made of two halves of a sphere, which have been joined together in a mold. It dates to the 1642 Siege of Hull.
