False teeth

Common name(s): The Holy Trinity Waterloo teeth
Catalogue ID: 738

Description

These teeth were found at Trinity Burial Ground at Castle Street. Dating from the early 1800s, they are human teeth which have been attached to a gold plate for re-use. They are probably not the owner's original teeth, but were obtained from someone else. They are sometimes known as 'Waterloo Teeth'.

They were found in the topsoil ('overburden') of the site when all the bodies were being relocated and are not associated with a burial.
