Memorials

Floor Slab – Ann Lambert (née Saltmarshe)

Catalogue ID: 633
NADFAS ID: 1263

Description

Blue slate heraldic ledger commemorating Ann Saltmarshe (1635-84), wife of Anthony Lambert snr. Style is similar to that of her son, Anthony jnr, with upper case inscription in low relief in 2 rows around the edge of the stone, and a central heraldic roundel. This shows the arms of Lambert impaling Saltmarshe. Lambert: gules, a chevron between three lambs passant argent, a chief chequy or and azure. (Red, with three white/silver lambs in profile and a chevron in silver; across the top, a checked band of blue and gold); Saltmarshe: argent, three cinquefoils gules between nine cross crosslets of the last. (Silver, with three red five-petalled flowers between nine small red crosses with crossed arms.) This is also sometimes decribed as Argent, crusily gules, three cinquefoils of the last – meaning the small red crosses are scattered over the silver background, with three red flowers. On top of the helmet, the Lambert crest is a lamb passant argent (standing lamb in profile, white or silver).
