Description

A collection of prints donated by Gareth Watkins, archivist at Hull City Museums, in 1997. Prints are taken from lantern slides possibly taken in the early 20th century of both the interior and exterior of Holy Trinity Church.

  • Slide 1 - Exterior east end showing telephone box, police "station" and fire ladders in situ in Market Place. The building of Edwin Davies's department store is not there but is surrounded by hoardings. The store was bombed in the Zepellin raid of 1915. the church restored pinnacles at this time, a new one can be seen at the left hand of the picture.
  • Slide 2 - Memorial lettering on the pulpit steps. "Thomas Mitchell and Charles Anthony Forrester, Churchwardens.
  • Slide 3 - The font in the central position in the nave aisle. chairs with prayer books in the central aisle. Lectern with gas lamps in front of the cnetral aisle.
  • Slide 4 - a view of the south nave aisle. Window at the east end is plain glass. Curtains surround the door to the soutch porch. The nave ceiling appears to be bare wood.
  • Slide 5 - View of the pulpit and lectern side by side in the nave. Gas lamps with ornamental crowns adorn the pulpit.
  • Slide 6 - View from the rear of the south nave looking east. Nave ceiling is very plain.
  • Slide 7 - view form the north nave to the north transept. Shows the gates, now removed, and the medeival doors, with curtains, which have been moved to the replace the gates. A heavy curtain hangs above the doors. The north door was the principal entrance for congregations at the time of this photograph.
  • Slide 7 - View of the north choir aisle taken from the transept. Shows the ornate pipes of the organ.
  • Slide 8 - view from the south choir aisel to the south transept. No organ in the arch of the south transept.
  • Slide 9 - carved "imp" figure on the Peck pew ends
  • Slide 9 - View from the south transept through the medieval doors to the crossing showing the top of the organ and pipe screen.
