Clay tobacco pipe
Catalogue ID: 756
Description
Unglazed clay pipes were the disposable 'plastic' of their day. Made in huge numbers with long stems, they were very cheap and used by men and women. The user could simply break off the end of the stem to renew the pipe. Most pipe bowls are therefore found, as these were, with only short stems left, and lots of discarded stem pieces about 2cms long.
