Description

This pearlware (pottery) plate dates to the 1800s. It displays a botched quote from the work of William Penn, a well-known Quaker minister from the 1600s who was the founder of the state of Pennsylvania in the the United States. It was probably a child's plate, and the maxim intended as good advice for the child to remember.
