Bone die
Catalogue ID: 660
Description
This die is made from bone. The large chip on one side broke it and unbalanced it. Dice are frequently found in archaeological digs as games of chance were very popular pastimes. Without carbon-dating the bone, it is not easy to date because it is a crude, hand-made object which has its own style. It is very small, which suggests it could be part of a travel set. To distract themselves while away at sea, sailors and fishermen often carried gaming dice with them.
