Description

Broken and partially delaminated sandstone fragment, with elegant inscription (Roman, with names in Italic script) commemorating Jeremiah Meadley, who was buried on 27 September 1777, and probably other family members. He had married Jane Harper at Holy Trinity on 21 October 1739. The inscription as recorded by Barton suggests that a daughter or daughters may be buried with him:

  • Eleanor, bur. 24 May 1746
  • Ann, bur. 5 May 1750
  • Elizabeth, bur. 22 March 1753
  • Mary, bur. 13 Nov 1753
  • Jane, bur. 6 Mar 1754

Also a son:

  • Jeremiah, bur. 5 Jun 1749

A broken fragment, with some delamination. On the intect areas, the inscription is still quite sharp.
