Floor Slab – Robert & Lydia Nettleton
Description
Blue slate stone with incised inscription commemorating Alderman and Mayor Robert Nettleton, his wife Lydia (née Blaydes) and seven of their thirteen children. The inscription emphasises Lydia's heritage: that her mother Ann was a daughter of Rev Andrew Marvell and sister of the MP and poet Andrew Marvell, whose statue can be seen nearby outside the Old Grammar School. They had married at St Mary's Church on 9 April 1674.
Six of the children buried with them are: Mary (1676-8), Lydia (1680-1700), Robert (1684), Isabel (1690), Andrew (1691) and William (1699-1700).
