Floor Slab – Ann & Henry Maister
Description
Heraldic ledger commmorating Ann Maister (née Raikes) and Henry Maister. See wall plaque ID 51 commemorating the same couple. Upper case inscriptions in low relief: around the edge for Ann, and inserted at the top for her husband, who died some years later. Heraldic achievement in relief in central roundel, 820 mm diameter, showing arms of Maister impaling Raikes. Maister: azure, a fess embattled between three griffin’s heads erased or (blue, with a horizontal battlement-shaped band between three griffin heads in gold.) The Raikes arms depicted are not those generally found in armorials for the family. The crest is for Maister: Out of a mural coronet or, a unicorn's head azure, armed and crined of the first. (A gold coronet shaped like battlements, out of which rises a blue unicorn's head with gold horn and mane.)
