Description

Somewhat worn blue slate, with surface abrasions and scratches from furniture and some loss of white filling from inscription. Extensive text, with a verse from the Psalms, commemorates Betty (Elizabeth) Wright (1762-1843), widow of master mariner William Wright; her sister-in-law Hannah Bell (1774-1841) and also Hannah's daughter Jane Bell (1813-48) and husband John Bell (1773-1851).

IN MEMORY OF/BETTY Widow of WILLIAM WRIGHT/Master Mariner of this Port/who died 31:st October 1843,/Aged 81 Years.

Also of/HANNAH Wife of JOHN BELL,/and Sister in Law of the above/who died June 27:th 1845/Aged 71 Years.

JANE BELL, daughter of JOHN & HANNAH BELL/who died April 22nd 1848 Aged 35 Years

Also of JOHN BELL, Husband and Father of the above/HANNAH & JANE BELL, who died August 16:th 1854/Aged 81 Years.

And now, Lord, what is my hope/ Truly my hope is even in Thee/39th Psalm 8th Verse.
