Description

Horizontal, rectangular white marble wall tablet with incised, black Roman Cap. letttering, commemorates William Hunt. He entered the Navy in 1790, serving on the Otter sloop under Captain Thomas Williams and as Midshipman on the Speedy. He served later on the Lord Mulgrave and the Superb, becoming Lieutenant on the latter in 1799. He served on the Sally, the Vengeance, the Irresistible (under William Bligh) and the Agamemnon, before the Treaty of Amiens in 1802. When war broke out again, he commanded naval Impressment in Hull. He retired in 1830.
